Come on let’s BLOG again

It’s time to blog again. I won’t have anything exciting for you apart of view news from IT world.

First is about Polish Team won ImagineCup 2006 in 2 categories and take 4 prices. It was international competition in Delhi, India and there were 181 students from 42 countries. Poles have taken all 3 main places in Algorithm category and second place in Short Movie Category. It looks like opinion that we (Poles) have around the world that our IT stuff is THE BEST is true. It’s a pity that we are not appreciated in Poland as we are abroad. Anyway, even Microsoft realized that. They will have a big development office just next to Technical University of Poznan, where they going to hire new students.

Another thing I’d like to write about is http://virtualexperience.amd.com/ site. It was very helpful for me to catch on latest technologies with not AMD only but some other companies. What is more interesting is a way of presenting content. It looks like virtual trip around big TECHNOLOGY exhibition. If you don’t fancy a technology lectures just take a look at what WEB DESIGNERS can do with boring content and make it fun.

RHCP - another music abbreviation

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex MagicSometimes oldies are not so old. I just got my hands on Red Hot Chilli Peppers album “Blood Sugar Sex Magic”.

I am not a big RHCP fan and I remember to not like some of their earlier stuff. I need to admit though, that this is truly great album.

Songs are various, from very funky music to very classic like “Under the Bridge” or “Breaking the Girl”. I do have to mention one of my favourite ever that is “Give it away”. If you have a cd, old tape or a mp3 folder with Red Hot Chilli Peppers, “Blood Sugar Sex Magic” give it a go. If you haven’t heard it before is definitely worth trying.

I’m sure this music won’t put you in a bad mood.

Stay (not i) tuned

“Firefox - What have you done?”

I was shocked, and I still am. My beloved web browser that is Firefox turned out to not keep web standards. This just nailed me down. Since several months Firefox has gaining its resource consumption appetite and more and more security bugs. I was hoping that for all that problems I can close my eyes because its still browser that is 100% WEB STANDARDS compliant.

I was wrong. When I was reading comparison of web browser speed I have clicked at link for Web Standards Project. There is test for compatibility of web browsers. When I have clicked this test I was shocked. Firefox is not displaying the content properly.

Internet Explorer test was even worst. Page looks like some sort of victim from horror movie just after MAD BUTCHER visit.

Final test made on Opera (latest version) and it turned out that this is currently only web browser that passed this test. I remember Opera couple of years ago and I need to say that those Opera developers have made a nice piece of work.

I need to admit that I’m concerning web browser switch. Firefox is starting to be annoying. More, its not giving “expecting quality” for “resource price” it’s expecting. I’m struggling over its speed as well.

DMB - Lillywhite Session

Behind mysterious abbreviation that is DMB stands band name. Dave Matthews Band. It is one of my favourite band. I think it stands next to Pearl Jam in my personal hall of glory.

Dave Matthews BandIt’s hard to describe and categorise DMB music. It is incredibly melodically, has rock elements and a lot of jazz. All the musicians are professionals; some of them were playing before in Jazz bands. Final effect is incredible. Mixture of South African rhythms, jazz improvisation, pop and rock melody. Sometimes music tends to be hard but you can’t rocky but at the other hand you can’t hear typical heavy guitars, bass and drums.

Cooking with Java and not only…

IMG_5638.JPG

It is 4 months since I have started new work, new job, new environment and what is most important, new EXPERIENCE. I haven’t come across this sort of methodology and programming technique before. What is this that I’m talking about. Some of them are: Test Driven Development, usage of Dependency Injection Framework (Spring) and tools like Maven, Cruise Control and now Continuum.

I will spend 5 minutes and try to explain what is this all about.

UK - France - UK

Holidays are over ;-[

Believe it or not but that was my first holidays since very long time.

Polish flag British flag French flag

Me and my Wife decided to go to France. We have spent 5 days on sunny Riviera beach close to Montpellier, 2 days in Pyrenees and 2 days in Normandy. We have visited Lourdes and Mount-Saint-Michelle.

I like France, but I couldn’t live there. That is the country where smoking is still a matter of fashion (B.O.L.O.X). Apart of small language problems (forgot my French and not to many people speak English there, not mention Polish or German) holidays were GREAT.

It was really hard to not do anything especially when you are on high throttle all the time. But after 2 days I think I become a master in “doing nothing”.

We have seen a lot and travelled 3000 km. I have placed gallery with some pictures from France under this address: http://www.gigoo.org/gallery/france2006/. Do not expect photo feast, it’s just simple tourists photos. Pictures are made by me and my Wife Joanna.

Enjoy.
