Windows Live Writer
Today at work, I have seen one of my colleagues and mentors Cleve (his blog is on my Blogroll list) publishing new post to his blog. I was surprised seeing that he is not doing this through web interface. Huh, interesting. I thought it’s faster and that you have better control over post look and it’s content. I couldn’t be more wrong.
What he was using was Windows Live Writer desktop application. Writer supports RSD (Really Simple Discoverability), the Metaweblog API, and the Movable Type API. Basically it means, whatever blog engine you’ve got it supports it
(well, almost). Very clever thing recognized my blog engine (Wordpress) and downloaded post styles. It’s very cool because editor has same style for text, background etc. like blog. It turned out to be even better then web interface. I don’t get WYSIWYG functionality in it (What You See Is What You Get).
It has some nice easy to use futures, like page layout, insert link, map, picture and normal text formating tools. And the best of it all is little “ PUBLISH” button, that saves you all the hustle.
Here is a screen shot of Me writing This post
If you are writing to blog using Web interface you might consider this handy application. More to find out and download you can find on this page. http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/
Take care, Gregster
